2. Has the brand (company) disclosed the annual carbon footprint of its 'own operations' and has the brand already reduced or compensated 10% of these emissions in the last 5 years? Marimekko has published some key figures on its environmental responsibility indicators for power consumption, heating energy consumption, natural gas consumption and water consumption since 2008. However, no detailed carbon footprint reporting is available yet to show whether or not a CO2 reduction of 10% has been achieved yet. SOURCE
3. Has the brand (company) set a target to reduce the carbon footprint of its 'own operations' by at least 20% within the next 5 years? In 2010, an appraisal of how environmental impacts could be mitigated was made and targets for these issues were set for the next few years. However, no detailed report was available on their website. SOURCE
4. Does the brand (company) also have a policy to reduce/compensate carbon emissions generated from the product supply chain that is beyond own operations? Marimekko seeks to save energy by improving its production methods, investing in energy-efficient machinery and equipment and monitoring energy consumption. Figures are available on their website (see page 4 of Sustainability Report, environment section, 2nd paragraph). SOURCE

A plan was drawn up to expand the proportion of products made of organic materials (see page 4 of Sustainability Report). However, no details are found on their website. SOURCE

1. Does the brand (company) have a supplier Code of Conduct (CoC) which includes the following standards: No forced or slave labour, no child labour, no discrimination of any kind and a safe and hygienic workplace? In 2010, Marimekko drew up its own Code of Conduct based on the ethical rules of the ILO and BSCI. The company claims that its signatory suppliers pledge to comply with the Code. However no details were found. Also, Marimekko works with SA8000 certified factories adn some of its materials are GOTS certified, but Marimekko does not communicate any percentages. SOURCE
2. Does this CoC include at least two of the following workers rights: 1. to have a formally registered employment relationship 2. to have a maximum working week of 48 hours with voluntary paid overtime of 12 hours maximum 3. to have a sufficient living wage? See remark for labour conditions question 1. SOURCE

Only 17 % of Marimekko's products are made in non-EU countries (36% in Finland and 46% in other EU countries). Marimekko or its authorized representative has the right to check compliance with the agreed process and the ILOs fundamental rules. No details or list were found. SOURCE

Marimekko says it aims to use certified suppliers with valid standards or certificates that are internationally recognised. It is not clear what percentage of factories/annual volume is certified however. SOURCE
